Can You Get Cheap Car Insurance Through BJ’s Wholesale?
Last Updated on October 18, 2026
If you’re a BJ’s Wholesale Club member, you might be wondering whether your membership can help you snag cheaper car insurance—similar to Costco. The short answer: BJ’s does not sell car insurance. BJ’s once advertised a GEICO member discount, but we could not verify that it is available today; ask GEICO about eligibility in your state. BJ’s announced the GEICO partnership in 2016, and its membership and services pages listed no insurance partner when we checked on October 18, 2026.
Below is how the BJ’s discount worked, how to find out whether GEICO will still apply one, and how to shop if it is gone.
- BJ’s doesn’t sell insurance. It once advertised a GEICO member discount, announced in 2016, but we could not verify that it is available today; ask GEICO about eligibility in your state.
- If GEICO does apply an affiliation discount, its terms say only one group discount applies per policy, the amount varies in some states, and in New York it may show as a premium reduction.
- The only way to know what, if anything, your membership is worth is to ask GEICO for a quote with and without the BJ’s affiliation, then compare both to other insurers at the same coverage limits.
- You can often save more by bundling intelligently, maximizing discounts, and shopping at every renewal than by relying on a single club discount.

Does BJ’s Wholesale Offer Car Insurance?
BJ’s isn’t an insurance company. On May 31, 2016, BJ’s announced that it had expanded its GEICO partnership to Massachusetts, giving members at all of its clubs a special discount on auto insurance plus access to GEICO’s homeowners, renters, motorcycle, RV and boat products, with GEICO saying it would serve members in 15 states. That is the last statement of the program from either company that we can find. BJ’s current membership and services pages list tires, optical, travel, home improvement, wireless, DirecTV, installation, car rental and protection plans among its member services and name no insurance partner, and GEICO’s partner directory does not show BJ’s in any of its categories. BJ’s once advertised a GEICO member discount, but we could not verify that it is available today; ask GEICO about eligibility in your state when you quote.
How the BJ’s “GEICO Member Discount” Actually Works
GEICO offers discounts for members of many organizations. Its partner directory sorts them into alumni associations and colleges, Berkshire Hathaway companies, business and professional organizations, military and federal organizations, and other organizations. If BJ’s still qualifies anywhere, it would sit in that program, and GEICO’s terms for every group discount are the same:
- Discounts aren’t the same everywhere. GEICO says the discount amount varies in some states, and that in New York a premium reduction may be available instead of a discount.
- Only one organization discount per policy. If you already qualify through another affiliation (like your employer or alumni association), the BJ’s discount may not stack.
If you already have GEICO, it can still be worth asking whether they can add the membership discount to your existing policy. You can also compare it against other savings options listed here: GEICO discounts.
How to Get a BJ’s Wholesale Car Insurance Quote
Start with GEICO’s membership discount page, which has a box to type in your organization and a ZIP code field. Enter BJ’s Wholesale Club and your ZIP code. If BJ’s comes up for your state, run the quote with the affiliation applied. If it does not, that is your answer for your state, and you should run a plain GEICO quote instead.
Tip: If the discount doesn’t appear automatically, try quoting both ways (with and without the affiliation) and compare the final premium. If the online quote shows nothing, a GEICO representative can tell you whether any affiliation discount applies to you.
Is BJ’s Wholesale Car Insurance Actually Cheap?
It can be cheaper—but there’s no universal “BJ’s rate.” Where a club discount applies at all, think of it as a small pricing edge on top of whatever GEICO already offers you.
That means BJ’s car insurance is most likely to feel “cheap” if:
- GEICO already prices well for your driver profile in your area
- You’re able to stack other discounts (good driver, multi-car, safe vehicle, etc.)
- You’re switching from a company that’s currently overcharging you at renewal
But if GEICO isn’t competitive for your situation, a BJ’s discount won’t magically make it the cheapest. Your best move is still to compare quotes across carriers. Start here: cheapest auto insurance companies.
BJ’s vs. Costco vs. Sam’s Club for Car Insurance
Warehouse clubs handle insurance differently, and these programs can change over time. Here’s the practical takeaway:
- BJ’s: A GEICO member discount announced in 2016 that neither company confirms on a current page; ask GEICO.
- Costco: A member auto and home program underwritten by American Family companies, branded CONNECT until the end of 2025. Neither Costco nor American Family publishes the size of the member discount, and the program is not sold in every state.
- Sam’s Club: Sells no car insurance and lists no car insurance partner for members; the one insurance product on its member services page is pet insurance from Spot. (If you’re shopping this angle, see Sam’s Club auto insurance for what members may or may not get.)
Instead of chasing one “club deal,” focus on the outcome: the best coverage for the lowest total premium.
Other Ways BJ’s Members Can Lower Car Insurance Costs
Even if the BJ’s discount is modest, you can often save more by combining it with the big-ticket strategies below:
- Bundle policies (when it’s truly cheaper). Bundling can be a big saver, but only if the combined pricing beats shopping separately: bundling auto and homeowners insurance.
- Max out discounts you already qualify for. Many drivers miss easy savings—paperless, paid-in-full, safe driver, multi-car, and more. Use this checklist: best auto insurance discounts.
- Shop at renewal (not just once). Rates change constantly. Re-quote every 6–12 months, especially after a ticket drops off, you move, or you change vehicles.
My advice is to stop shopping by club card. Run a GEICO quote, tell them you are a BJ’s member and let them say whether that changes anything, then get two or three other quotes at the same limits. The gap between insurers is usually bigger than any club perk.

Final Word: Is BJ’s Car Insurance Worth It?
If you’re already a BJ’s member, it costs nothing to ask GEICO whether a BJ’s affiliation discount still applies in your state. Whatever the answer, treat the GEICO price as one quote. Compare it against at least a few competitors and choose the policy that gives you the best mix of price, coverage, and service.
