CAR INSURANCE BY STATE

Wyoming’s financial responsibility law requires all drivers to maintain minimum amounts of liability coverage. Residents can fulfill this requirement by:

  • purchasing an automobile liability policy,
  • purchasing a bond in the amount of $25,000, or
  • making a cash deposit of $25,000 with the State Treasurer.

As a “Tort” state, motor vehicle operators in the state of Wyoming are legally and financially responsible for any damages to property, vehicles, or people that are a result of an auto accident for which they are at fault. If you choose to purchase an auto insurance policy, you must purchase coverage amounts above the state minimums outlined in the table below.

Residents of Wyoming may increase their protection by purchasing policy add-ons. Collision, comprehensive, medical payments, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage are great ways to protect you, your family and your assets.

Coverage Type Required? Minimum Coverage Amount Required
Bodily Injury Liability Yes $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident
Property Damage Liability Yes $20,000
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury No $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident
Personal Injury No

You may want to consider purchasing limits of coverage higher than those required by law to protect your assets or property, as you may be personally responsible for any damages above the policy limits.
